The rules of the game (2022)

Concept and performance: Eva Leemans
Light- and set design: Yi-Ju Chou in collaboration with Eva Leemans
Videography: Madison Pomarico

A duet between a performer and their performative surroundings.

A performative outcome from research into system dynamics, individual responsibility and identity inside the net of systems that we are all embedded in, which increasingly comes to light in our globalized society.

An invitation for the audience to see a human being in their totality, aiming to generate compassion and heightened awareness, therefore tolerance.

"This might have been a bad idea.
It’s been a good experience.
I did not enjoy it.
And I’m pleased to present it."

"Researching the influence of our environment on individual behavior by making a theatrical set move gave rise to many challenges.
Failure becomes hyper clear, the inability to control surfaces, the question of the value of manipulating objects arises.

Throughout the process I found myself questioning if I was working in the “right” way, if I was making “good” decisions. I found myself questioning how much I could really make this work be what I want it to be and how much it is formed by certain initial conditions, by time, by all the systems that work in on me, by the people I surround myself with,…
So this is me and the set (and all the people that have helped me throughout the process!) with all the systems and dynamics attached to us, navigating through the conditions that life as it is imposes on us."
